So I was watching Breaking Bad (hit TV show) the other night with my friends and I realized that the stories that were appearing on screen weren’t that far-fetched. In fact, some of my close friends have gone through very similar situations. Maybe they’re not manufacturing crystal meth and selling it through clever distributers but some of them have been masterminds of criminal outfits. I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say that my friend Smike was a major harvester of Smopiates and he’s brutally Smurdered thousands of people that have come between him and his sweet sweet Smrofits. Good luck deciphering that bit of encryption!

Anywho, I don’t want to align myself with brutal villains of society….just the ones that are my friends. Also, there are great dangers that go along with being in such severe lines of work. Do you think a baker can be any good without sampling his own products? Abso-snutely not! That’s precisely why my aforementioned friend, Smike, had to endure many months in opiate detox. Oops, I may have said too much.

My point is that whether you’re in TV land or real life, there are always consequences to your actions. So why go through life pursuing dubious lines of work when you can do things that help others AND help yourself at the same time? Maybe because you’ll make a lot more money as a criminal? Yes, but for how long? Several years? Decades? Maybe, but once you get caught (or worse) you’ll be very sorry and perhaps you’ll realize that the rewards didn’t match the consequences. At least that’s what my friend Smike tells me. The millions of dollars that he made pale in comparison to the loss of 12 years that he served in prison. I asked him what advice he has for people that might have thoughts of going into crime for monetary gain. He said, “Get them to stop watching Breaking Bad, and start watching Breaking Good.” I thought that was a weird thing to say, but I got the point.

Remember when all those celebrities came together and wrote and sang “We Are The World” in order to help end famine in Ethiopia? It was a spectacular success, raising millions of dollars for food relief. What most people don’t know is that in addition to raising millions of dollars to help end the famine, it created many new jobs for assistants to these rock and pop stars as they were staying in California to record the song. Upwards of 20 new assistants were hired to meet the rising needs of Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Quincy Jones, Bruce Springsteen, and Tina Turner, among others. The new assistants were rushed into the superstar assistant lifestyle and sadly, few of them ever made it out.

When these fresh faced assistants were first hired, they were running errands, making dinner, taking relatives to airports, fetching new watch bands, painting houses….a tall order for any assistant. But the straw that broke the camel’s back, and I mean ALL these camel’s backs, were the exposure to drugs and alcohol. This was before the implementation of the D.A.R.E. program, so none of these young people knew the slightest things about drugs. All they knew was that these heroes and gods that they worked for needed drugs to function…and function well they did! Therefore, it was only a natural that the young assistants also used and abused the drugs, like their musically superior bosses, such as The Boss.

Unfortunately, the recording sessions only lasted two whirlwind weeks, and when they were done the young assistants were dropped faster than a hot potato covered in poisonous fire ants. As the superstars moved on with their super lives, every last one of the assistants were left jobless and addicted to drugs. 14 of them died immediately. The rest were left to face a long and winding dirt road of drug filled depression. One day an assistant was preparing his nightly blankets made of newspaper when he saw an ad for low cost drug rehab in California. He decided, right then and there, to turn his life around, and he did. He told two other assistants about the treatment and they went on to life happy lives and form the corporation known as Monsanto.

Why? Because they continually entertain you with their depraved antics all the while making you feel better about your own confused existence? Yeah, me too. Oh, how unfortunate it is to see someone with immense talent lose their focus and go down a path of doom and destruction. I think that it’s sad, but apparently Americans think that it’s a gripping story worthy of the covers of tabloid magazines, not to mention our hard earned dollars. What does it say about us when we’re eager to hear all the lurid gossip about a particular actor or musician’s life. I think it says that we’re bored and that we need to find more things to occupy our time. Do you know how many classics there are in the library? Why read about Lindsey Lohan’s latest missed court date/car accident/drunken rampage when you can vanish into a world of similar action and despair, but with way more engrossing characters and better writing? Probably because there are pictures in the tabloids. Also, because it’s familiar to us, I mean you…the one who buys those tabloids and watches TMZ.

I’ll admit that some of these strung out strange-o celebs can be really entertaining, but I’m usually satisfied with reading the headlines. I don’t feel the need to know every detail and then listen to someone on TV explain the same things with visual aids…though the visual aids can be quite hilarious as well. What I usually think about after I hear these lurid tales of thinned-out thespians and manic-eyed musicians is what sort of troubles led them to their current situations. I think about how if they sought out some therapy they could turn their lives around and set a good example for their millions of fans. If they could just find their way to some sober coaching, Los Angeles, and the world, would be a better place.

So next time you’re eyeing the tabloid headlines at the grocery store or a co-worker tells you the latest juicy gossip, take a step back and ask yourself, “How would I feel if I was in their rich, designer shoes?” Not good, right? So don’t just stand there…go out there and help them!

I’m not talking about the kush doctors that prowl the Venice boardwalk, I’m talking about the real, honest-to-goodness doctors. You know the ones. They’re repulsed by the scent of apples. If you eat one no doctor will see you for the rest of the day. If you haven’t visited recently it’s worth making an appointment. Health is the most important thing in each of our lives. Without good health we can’t care for our loved ones or pursue the things that make us happy in life. And if we’re not happy in life then we are likely to take the rest of the earth down the hole of despair with us. This is why you must go to the doctor.

Let me tell you a little story about a man named Jim. Once there was a man named Jim, he was 35. He hadn’t been to the doctor since he was 22. He started to get a pain in his back but he chalked it up to getting older and not exercising as much as he should. He put off going to the doctor and the pain grew every month, despite his best efforts to change his lifestyle and exercise more. Tim had no medical insurance so he was afraid to go to the doctor and get a check-up. So instead, he procured some powerful pain medication from a friend. After a short while, he was using these to self-medicate on a daily basis. He became addicted to the pain meds and his quality of life began to decline along with his health. Jim began to lose his friends, his professional life suffered, and worst of all, his apartment was covered in dust. His closest friend, Snybor, pleaded with him to go to a pain medication abuse treatment center, but Jim wouldn’t listen. One day, while Jim was sitting on his dusty couch watching Maury, his body fell off. His body became detached from his head because it was so ravaged by the addiction. Jim didn’t die, but the rest of his life was spent as a stationary, body-less head. True story. Moral of the story: don’t be like Jim, but if you end up on pain meds, get some help before it’s too late.

It was an awesome getaway from the droning boredom of summer in the city. Although Uncle Tim’s place wasn’t too far removed from the city, it was the freewheeling atmosphere of fun that made it so much different. I was able to play primitive, but exciting computer games on some very early Apple computers, as well as ride my bike in the fields around the cabin, which provided me with hours of uninterrupted fun. Though I would only stay for a couple days at a time the amount of fun I had would leave a lasting impression.

The only trouble with going to my uncle’s cabin was having to deal with his perpetually angry neighbor, Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson would yell at me if I rode my bike to close to his flower garden, or if I left bike tire marks in his lawn. He didn’t seem to be very happy at all. It was only much later in life that my uncle told me that Mr. Wilson was an alcoholic. Apparently, he always said that he was going to a 12-step program, but if you ask me, he seemed like he was a couple steps short of a “recovering baker’s dozen” (I just coined that term). Mr. Wilson probably would’ve been better off going to a non 12-step rehab center. Who knows?

Uncle Tim was only renting the cabin and he moved away when I was 12. Although it’s usually tons of fun visiting Uncle Tim at his current home, I’ll always have a special fondness for that semi-secluded getaway of a cabin. Despite Mr. Wilson’s cantankerous encroachment on my fun levels, and his currently-unknown whereabouts, I still remember those times as some of the best in my life.

However, if you were to venture deeper into these beach communities you would soon find the seedy underbelly of beach culture….alcoholism. I’ve no doubt shocked you into a state of horrified disbelief, and for that I apologize. Unfortunately, the only way to curb this epidemic is to speak about it in blunt terminology. The beach culture of California has long been tainted by alcoholism. It goes back to the times before surfboards existed. In fact, it goes back the very day that surfing was created. As the legend goes, a severely inebriated pirate off the coast of what is now Half Moon Bay was standing on the bow of his ship hammering a plank of wood when the piece of wood broke off into the ocean with the pirate still hammering it, landing perfectly in the transition of a breaking wave and thus constituting the first successful wave ride documented by modern man. Though the accuracy of this anecdote can never fully be verified, we only need look to the local beach bar to realize that surfing and alcohol are inextricably linked. The only surefire way for these spelunkers of billowing sea caves and their salty friends to find light at the end of the tube is to seek help in the form of a California alcohol rehab facility. Only here can they find a sympathetic ear and a community capable of reframing their connection to the environment. The sea has long been seen by humans as something to be conquered, as has much of the rest of the world. The harsh reality of this impossibility has led man to turn to the bottle to allay his fears, bringing us to the current “epidemic by the sea.” There is a way out of this mess, and it’s only a surfboard’s length away. Surf’s up!

If rehab were more like a spa visit or a vacation at a resort more people would be enthusiastic about going. Rehab is a very scary thing and a very important time in a person’s life but that does not mean that rehab cannot be luxurious. A luxurious rehab still offers the same type of programs other treatment centers offer like residential treatment, outpatient treatment, psychotherapy, counseling, drug education and detox but with more amenities and a higher quality of treatment. For example, at a luxury rehab instead of the group therapy meeting being held in a common room, a group therapy session will be held in a special room or even on the beach around a fire. Luxury treatment facilities have delicious food, comfortable rooms, complete gyms, pools and so much more. These patients are treated very well throughout their difficult time.

Patients that recover in Malibu get to enjoy many things that other facilities normally do not offer. When you recover by the beach you are able to participate in surfing, kayaking, yoga on the beach, meditation on the beach, hikes and other fun

Outdoor activities. Patients at Seasons recovery center in Malibu Ca have the luxury of taking creative writing therapy, massage therapy, sound therapy, acupuncture, cooking therapy, art therapy, dream therapy, equine therapy, family therapy, music therapy, acting therapy and so much more.

At Seasons in Malibu patients get all the attention and support they need and are encouraged to be comfortable and really immerse themselves into treatment and get more than just sobriety, but recovery for life.

Lie #1: Drug addiction is a choice.

In the beginning of an addict’s drug use, it is very much their choice. However, as the habit increases and becomes a habit, the drug begins to alter the chemistry of the brain and body. This habit soon becomes a compulsive need for the drug. Drug Addiction is a side effect of drug abuse and not a choice. In many cases, drug rehab is sought at California treatment programs and other facilities like Malibu, for drug rehab as the addict is aware of their inability to solve their problem alone.

Lie #2: All legal drugs are good, and all harmful drugs are illegal.

It does not matter whether a drug is legal or illegal, when use of a drug becomes compulsive, there is an abuse at hand. Even if a federally regulated drug is considered “safe”, misuse and abuse of this drug can still have harmful effects. There are many cases in California and other states in the county where legal drugs have been so harmful that, treatment for those “legal” drugs were needed. Drug rehab programs for Malibu and other California cities are needed to combat this epidemic.

Lie #3: Marijuana use is okay because it is natural.

Marijuana is in fact bad for you. This powerful drug can cause cancer and numerous other health complications putting the user at risk for disease. Anyone who uses this drug is at risk for dependence. Other negative effects of this drug include lack of coordination, memory problems and poor concentration.

Season’s Malibu, is a drug rehab that believes an individualized approach to drug rehab treatment is the most effective. If you have questions about some of the “myths” you may have about drug addiction or need help for you or a loved one, contact Season’s Malibu today.

As much as sex may be a controversial, inappropriate or uncomfortable topic, sex addiction can be that much worse. Not only is sex something people do not really talk about publicly, but also sex addiction can be something that a lot of people would frown upon or see it as a very disturbing behavior. However, sexual addiction is a very real thing, and like other behavioral addictions like gambling or video game addiction, sex addiction can really affect a person’s life. Sexual addiction can bring many negative consequences to a person’s life in many ways. A person with a sexual addiction cannot control their sexual desires or sexual fantasies and may choose to watch pornographic material in excessive amounts, or have numerous sexual partners.

Sexual addiction can affect someone physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and other ways. Physically, a sex addict can choose to have sex with many different partners putting them at risk for sexual transmitted diseases and sexually transmitted infections. A person who has a sexual addiction may also not be able to keep a stable relationship because of the all issues that come along like insecurities from the constant need of sex. A person with a sexual addiction may feel like an outcast and suffer mentally and emotionally. People who may be aware of this sexual addiction may distance themselves from him or her socially.

Sexual addiction can be helped, by first a sexual addiction intervention. For some people they may not realize their unhealthy sexual behavior is actually a sexual addiction. They may need some convincing that they need professional help to not only regulate their behavior but discover any underlying issues that may have fosters their addiction.

Blacktop360 is a company that specializes in the innovation of tailgate grills. So far they have managed to accomplish a lot in the small apparatus they champion. As a matter of fact there truly is no other grill like theirs. Blacktop360 makes the best deep fryer for tailgating, and it is on the portable grill that they offer. This is one of many different things that set Blacktop360 apart from any of their fellow competitors in the tailgate cookware arena. They truly have the best innovative ideas that are on display with their portable grill. For instance, their grill folds down into a simple yet easy to handle item that can go directly in the bed of a truck or the back seat or trunk of a vehicle.

Finding a deep fryer that will accomplish all that you need while tailgating is kind of a tough challenge for those who do not have access to restaurant style cookware. Therefore Blacktop360 has been able to perfect the design of two separate grills with a deep fryer in the center of the grill in order to allow the cook to prepare tasty morsels for those whom they are cooking for. When you purchase a portable grill from Blacktop360, there will be no food request too large or extravagant because all the operations of the portable grill ensure a successful cooking experience.

So if you are looking for a deep-frying grill, Blacktop360 can certainly help you out with that. They have made their portable grill to the specifications of the gourmet tailgate chef. There is no competition when it comes to the Blacktop360 line because there are no other grills that can do the same things that they are capable of.
